S Korea’s Polymirae to restart PP plants on 25 Feb after outage

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Polymirae will restart two of its polypropylene (PP) plants at Yeosu in South Korea on 25 February, a company source said on Friday.

"We plan to restart these two plants by today,” the source said. Each plant has a 160,000 tonne/year capacity, he added.

Polymirae plans to restart its one other PP plant with the same capacity on 26 February, he added.

All three plants were shut on 22 February because of a disruption in its propylene supply caused by the outage of Yeochun NCC's (YNCC) No 1 cracker.

PP production lost from the outage was estimated at 4,000-5,000 tonnes, of which 40% consisted of block copolymer grades and the rest homopolymers, he said.

Polymirae’s unexpected outage had intensified regional supply concern as availability had already been reduced as a result of plant maintenance shutdowns by Reliance in India and by Saudi Polyolefins in Saudi Arabia, traders said.
