US Q4 phenol output steady vs Q3; 2010 output up 38% - NPRA

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US phenol production in the fourth quarter was 1.220bn lb, almost unchanged from 1.221bn lb in the third quarter, the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA) said on Friday.

Fourth-quarter production was up 31% from 932m lb a year earlier.

For all of 2010, US phenol production was 4.657bn lb, a gain of 38% from 3.365bn lb in 2009.

Phenol production has been supported by growing downstream demand for derivatives such as bisphenol A (BPA), for use consumer electronics.

The companies reporting production figures in the survey were Dow Chemical, INEOS, Georgia Gulf, Shell and Sunoco.
