MYRIANT AND DAVY IN BIOSUCCINIC ACID DEAL
UK-based Davy Process Technology will use bio-succinic acid developed by US-based Myriant Technologies as a feedstock for the production of butanediol (BDO), tetrahydrofuran and gamma-butyrolactone. Davy will incorporate Myriant's technology into the company's BDO production technology to minimize the cost of recovery and purification of the succinic acid.
LANXESS EXTENDS BIOBUTANOL AGREEMENT
Germany-based LANXESS has invested $17m (€12.6m) in US bio-based isobutanol producer Gevo and signed a 10-year exclusive supply deal with the firm. LANXESS has a 9.1% interest in Gevo. The company is developing the dehydration process to convert the biomass-based isobutanol to isobutene, a raw material used in the production of butyl rubber. Gevo is retrofitting 22m gals/year (100m liters/year) at its ethanol facility in Luverne, Minnesota, US, to produce 18m gals/year of isobutanol in the first half of 2012.
SEGETIS PARTNERS WITH CLEANING FIRM METHOD
US green chemistry company Segetis has partnered with US consumer products producer Method Products, which will use its bio-based materials. The first products with these ingredients, tub and tile cleaners, will be launched in March.
ELEVANCE EXPANDS CATALYSTS PORTFOLIO
US-based Elevance Renewable Sciences has completed a licensing deal with Switzerland-based XiMo for its proprietary molybdenum and tungstenmetathesis catalysts in the field of natural oils. XiMo's catalysts will expand Elevance's portfolio, which includes metathesis reactions based on ruthenium catalysts.
