HOUSTON (ICIS)--A spokesman for Bayer MaterialScience confirmed on Tuesday that the company resumed normal manufacturing operations at its polycarbonate (PC) plant in Texas, but remains under force majeure (FM) for North American PC and bisphenol A (BPA).

Bayer declared FM on North American PC and BPA on 2 February because of severe winter weather at its 260,000 tonne/year PC plant in Baytown.

The company said it does not have a timeline for lifting the FM.

In a letter to customers dated 15 February, Bayer said that it expected to resume normal operations at the Baytown plant the week of 21 February.

A buyer in the US PC market said Bayer had restarted its plant by 22 February, but this date was not confirmed by the company.

US PC spot prices are assessed by ICIS at 156-170 cents/lb ($3,439-3,748/tonne, €2,476-2,698/tonne) FOB (free on board).

($1 = €0.72)
