SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Zhejiang Yuandong Chemical Fibre Group shut its 600,000 tonne/year No 1 Eastman proprietary terephthalic acid plant at Shaoxing in Zhejiang province this week for 25 days of scheduled maintenance, a company source said on Friday.
The plant was taken off line on 2 March, the source said.
The company’s two other purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plants were scheduled to come off line in April and May for a two-week shutdown each.
The source said the company had informed its customers of a 50% cut to its commitment of contract volumes during the period of the shutdowns.
The ongoing turnaround of the 600,000 tonne/year plant had tightened spot supply in the domestic market, market sources said.
“We are seeking spot cargoes to plug shortages,” said a major Zhejiang-based polyester maker who had been buying cargoes actively during the week.
