Japan’s Sumitomo Chem’s adipic acid unit unaffected by quake

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical is running its 5,000 tonne/year adipic acid (ADA) plant in Ehime prefecture normally as it was unaffected by earthquake and tsunami, a company source said on Monday.

Adipic acid supply was tight in Asia, the source said, though supply from the plant does not impact the region as the company did not export ADA and only sold the material to domestic customers.

The other ADA producer in Japan is Asahi Kasei, who was also running its operations normally, unscathed from the earthquake as it was located far from the earthquake epicentre.
