HOUSTON (ICIS)--Praxair will double the capacity of its Memphis air separation plant in Tennessee to meet growing customer requirements in the region, the US industrial gases producer said on Monday.

Praxair produces oxygen and nitrogen at the Memphis plant to supply US refiner Valero and steel producer Nucor, it said.

The company said it would add 400 tons/day of new liquid production capacity to serve customers in the region.

The new production is expected to start up in the third quarter of 2011, the company said.

Praxair also recently constructed a pipeline capable of serving multiple customers in the area, it noted.

Praxair cited “overall steady growth” in the southeast region of the US.

Financial terms were not disclosed.
