TOKYO (ICIS)--The annual Asia Petrochemical Industry Conference (APIC) 2011, scheduled to take place in late May at Fukuoka, Japan, will be held as scheduled, organisers said on Tuesday.
“There has been no change in the schedule. We have not heard of any damages [by the earthquake and tsunami in Fukuoka],” said an official from organiser Japan Petrochemical Industry Association (JPCA).
The annual regional conference of the petrochemical industry saw participation by around 1,500 top management and corporate executives from the industry worldwide in 2010.
Meanwhile, some petrochemical plants in eastern and northern Japan have been shut or are running at reduced rates after a 9.0-magnitude earthquake hit northeastern Japan on 11 March.
“We haven’t made a summary of which plants are down, because the earthquake just happened last Friday,” the official said.
The official declined to comment on the expected impact of the recent earthquake on Japan’s petrochemical industry.
