SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Kenya’s Magadi Soda will shut its 350,000 tonne/year soda ash unit in southern Kenya for a week of scheduled maintenance in April, a company source said on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Magadi is running its other 350,000 tonne/year facility at the same site at full rate, said the source.
“The exact [shutdown] date will depend on when the technical people can gather all the parts together. This will not affect supply as it is a one-week scheduled maintenance,” said the source.
Over 95% of the company’s output is exported to its principal markets in Southeast Asia, India, Africa and the Middle East, according to the company website.
Soda ash is used in the manufacture of glass and detergents and industrial chemicals.
