SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China’s ethylene output reached 1.25m tonnes in February, a 30.6% year on year increase, according to data from China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF) on Wednesday.

The total output for January and February stood at 2.6m tonnes, a 35.8% year-on-year increase, according to the data.

“The ethylene output may continue to increase in China this year," an industry source said in Mandarin.

The source attributed the ethylene output increase to high operating rates of naphtha crackers.

Besides, Saudi Arabia's SABIC and China's Sinopec joint venture 1m tonne/year cracker at Tianjin in North China, was also expected to achieve full productions rate later this year, the source added.
