JAPAN DISASTER: Honda extends production suspension until 27 March

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Honda has extended its production suspension in Japan until 27 March from 23 March due to difficulties in acquiring parts from its suppliers, the automaker said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.

The production suspension includes Honda’s automobile plants in Sayama and Suzuka as well as a motorcycles factory in Kumamoto, the statement said.

“Concerning operations from 28 March onwards, Honda will make decisions based on the status of the recovery of Japanese society as a whole as well as the supply of parts,” it added.

Japanese car makers have been struggling to resume production in Japan amid a shortage of parts and available workers after the deadly earthquake and tsunami on 11 March.

The automotive industry is an important pillar of demand for petrochemicals.
