ROTTERDAM, the Netherlands (ICIS)--Biofuels producers need to operate more cost effectively in order to improve margins, a member of the International Energy Agency said on Tuesday.
Producers need to ensure that plants are more energy efficient in light of higher fuel and energy costs, said Anselm Eisentraut at the World Biofuels Markets conference.
Producers also need to use low-cost feedstocks such as waste materials, residues and cheaper oils, he added.
Eisentraut also recommended that producers integrate production processes and use co-products more efficiently.
