SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Brunei Methanol Company (BMC) has shut its 850,000 tonne/year methanol plant in Sungai Liang Industrial Park for planned maintenance which is expected to last for 40 days, a company source said on Wednesday.

The shutdown started on Tuesday for a complete inspection of equipment as its one-year warranty contract is almost up, the source added.

The plant, which was started up in April last year, is a joint venture of Mitsubishi Gas Chemical (MGC) 50%, Itochu Corp 25% and Brunei National Petroleum Company (Petroleum Brunei) 25%.

Methanol is used in the manufacture of formaldehyde, methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), methyl chlorides, methyl methacrylate (MMA) and acetic acid.
