SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Zhejiang Yuandong Chemical Fibre Group shut its 600,000 tonne/year No 2 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Shaoxing in Zhejiang province on Thursday for a two-week turnaround, a company source said.

The shutdown was brought forward from its original plan in early April due to an accelerated completion of maintenance at its No 1 plant, the source said.

Earlier this week, the company restarted its 600,000 tonne/year No 1 Eastman Proprietary terephthalic acid plant at the same site, one week ahead of its initial plan. The plant was shut on 2 March for an expected 25 days of maintenance.

“An earlier restart gives us more flexibility in managing stocks and sales,” the company source said, adding that the company would also advance a two-week shutdown at its 600,000 tonne/year No 3 line at the same site to early April, instead of early May.

Chinese domestic PTA prices firmed to yuan (CNY) 11,600-11,650/tonne (1,768-1.776/tonne) on Thursday, up by CNY100-150/tonne from the previous week due to tight spot supply, according to ICIS.
