SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC) Ningbo Daxie Petrochemical, a subsidiary of CNOOC, plans to build a 200,000 tonne/year methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) plant at Ningbo in Zhejiang province, a company source said on Friday.

The plant is part of a new complex, which is under environmental protection evaluation, the source said, adding operations are expected to start in late 2013.

The complex will also have a 2.1m tonne/year hydrogenation pre-treating unit, 1.8m tonne/year wax oil cracker, 1m tonne/year gas fractionation unit and 500,000 tonne/year hydrorefining unit, the source said, without providing further details.

If the new MTBE plant operates at full rates, it may have MTBE products for sale after meeting captive requirements, the source said.

The CNOOC subsidiary has an 8m tonne/year crude distillation unit (CDU), a 2.4m tonne/year delayed coker, a 600,000 tonne/year mixed aromatic unit and a 1.7m tonne/year distillate oil hydrocracker, which are located at the same site, the source said.
