SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s JX Nippon Oil & Energy restarted its 220,000 tonne/year Group I base oils facility at Negishi in Kanagawa prefecture on 22 March, a company source said on Friday.
The recovery in production came a day after its 270,000 bbl/day crude refinery complex, which is located at the same site, resumed production.
The base oils facility was shut after the massive 11 March earthquake and tsunami in northeast Japan.
As a result of the unplanned outage and an ongoing turnaround at its second 246,000 tonne/year Group I base oils facility in Mizushima, JX Energy will have no spot availability for the next few months, the company source said. Exports will be confined to term supplies, she added.
The other base oils refineries in Japan were not affected by the earthquake.
