SAN ANTONIO, Texas (ICIS)--Following a lacklustre start to 2011, low density polyethylene (LDPE) film demand strengthened in Mexico and prices have stabilised, a Mexican trader said on Sunday.
Many customers opted to use linear low density PE (LLDPE) as an alternative to more expensive LDPE, Jorge Santa Cruz Polanco of PMI Comercio Internatcional said on the sidelines of the International Petrochemical Conference (IPC).
US LDPE exports to Mexico were heard at 74-76 cents/lb ($1,631-1,675/tonne, €1,158-1,189/tonne) DAF (delivered at frontier) Laredo, Texas.
The price spread from LLDPE to LDPE was around 10 cents/lb, compared with 15 cents/lb in second half 2010, the trader said.
Hosted by the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA), the IPC continues through Tuesday.
