SAN ANTONIO, Texas (ICIS)--Solutia's ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) film plant in China should rival the company's volumes in Germany by the end of the year, a vice president at the company said on Sunday.

In other news, Solutia is adding a second polyvinyl butyral (PVB) line at the Suzhou plant, said Eric Nichols, vice president, business management for Solutia's advanced interlayers division.

Nichols was speaking on the sidelines of the International Petrochemical Conference (IPC).

The line should come on stream in the first quarter of 2012.

Solutia is also conducting a study to determine the feasibility of a new PVB resin plant in Asia, he said. That PVB study should be completed in the summer, Nichols said.

By the second quarter, a line at Solutia's plant in Ghent, Belgium, will be upgraded, allowing it to produce acoustic PVB film, Nichols said. Acoustic film deadens outside noise.

Solutia completed a similar project at another Ghent PVB line in the fourth quarter.

Hosted by the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA), the IPC continues through Tuesday.
