SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China’s Anhui Zhonglian Energy plans to start up its new 50,000 tonne/year methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) plant at Chuzhou in Anhui in mid-April, a company source said on Monday.

The daily output of the plant is expected to reach 200 tonnes, the source said, adding that the company is targeting to sell products to the east China market once the plant is able to run at full rates, the source said.

The start-up of the plant, the second stage of the company’s expansion project, would ease tight supply of MTBE in east China, industry sources said.

The first stage of the project was completed earlier, with the start-up of a 50,000 tonne/year dimethyl ether (DME) plant in 2009.

The third stage of the project, which involves the construction of a 200,000 tonne/year DME plant, is still in the planning phase, the source said.

All three units are located at Chuzhou, the source added.
