SHANGHAI (ICIS)--Daqing Petrochemical, a subsidiary of PetroChina, plans to build a new 120,000 tonnes/year methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) plant at Daqing in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang, a company source said on Monday.
The new MTBE plant, included in the producer’s naphtha cracker expansion project, was expected to startup at the end of 2012, the source said.
The producer was doubling its ethylene capacity to 1.2m tonnes/year by the end of 2011, the source said.
The producer was currently running another 36,000 tonnes/year MTBE unit, located at the same site, at full rates, the source added.
Daqing Petrochemical has 6m tonnes/year oil processing capacity, the source added.
