SAN ANTONIO, Texas (ICIS)--Ark Shipping Inc expects to own more than 2,000 ISO tanks by the end of the year, banking on good growth in global chemical shipments through 2012, a company official said on Monday.
“My company has 1,200 plus tanks and we are adding 30-50 containers every month,” Ark Shipping's Illinois-based sales manager Deepak Jaitly told ICIS on the sidelines of the International Petrochemical Conference (IPC).
“We are adding more tanks because there is business,” he said.
Chemical companies increasingly view ISO tanks as more efficient in moving bulk loads of liquid chemicals compared with drums, he said.
“Things are going better than in 2009… In 2012 may be moving at a good speed,” Jaitly said.
Ark Shipping is an agent for Transliquids, which deals in ISO tank business.
The shipping firm’s major customers include DuPont and BASF, Jaitly said, adding that the company has strong operations in the Far East, Europe and India.
Of the current total number of ISO tanks Ark Shipping owns and leases, about 80% handle chemicals, while 10% are food grade tanks and another 10% are for gases, he said.
Hosted by the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA), the IPC continues through Tuesday.
