SAN ANTONIO, Texas (ICIS)--SABIC plans to bring on stream a world-scale isocyanates complex in Saudi Arabia by 2015, a senior company official said late on Monday.

"It will be a joint venture project, but it is too early to disclose who the partner is,"  Koos Van Haasteren, executive vice president for performance chemicals at SABIC, said on the sidelines of the International Petrochemical Conference (IPC).

He declined to reveal the capacities and location of the proposed methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) and toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) plants, but said they would be located in Saudi Arabia.

SABIC also plans to set up a polyurethane training centre in Saudi Arabia to complement the isocyanates facility, he said.

Hosted by the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA), the IPC continues through Tuesday.
