Bayer MaterialScience plans €65m production facility in Shanghai

LONDON (ICIS)--Bayer MaterialScience is planning to invest €65m ($91.5m) in a world-scale production facility for coating raw materials in Shanghai, China, the Germany-based polymers and plastics major said on Tuesday.

The new production facility for the coating raw material isophorone diisocyanate will be built at Bayer MaterialScience's integrated site in Shanghai. The inauguration of the plant is scheduled for 2015, the company said. 

The project is part of the company's €1bn expansion plans for its production capacities in China, and the addition of the new plant will mean the total investment by Bayer MaterialScience in China will have increased to €3bn. 

It did not disclose the production capacity of the plant.  

The organic compound isophorone diisocyanate is used as a raw material primarily in high-grade polyurethane coatings for automotive finishing.
