TORONTO (ICIS)--Enterprise Products plans to expand its natural gas liquids (NGLs) import/export terminal on the Houston Ship Channel, the US midstream energy services company said on Tuesday.

The expansion project would nearly double the fully refrigerated export loading capacity for propane and other NGLs at the terminal to more than 10,000 bbl/hour after completion in the second half of 2012, Enterprise said.

It would also improve the terminal’s ability to load multiple vessels simultaneously, Enterprise added without disclosing financial details.

Enterprise CEO Michael Creel said the expansion comes as the company is seeing record demand for its NGL export services, driven by increased global demand for NGLs in substitution of more expensive crude oil derivatives.

Enterprise Products expects to boost its NGL fractionation capacity at Mont Belvieu, Texas, to 375,000 bbl/day later this year with the completion of a fifth fractionator, it said.

In November, Enterprise already started up a new 75,000 bbl/year unit at Mont Belvieu, bringing its capacity there to 305,000 bbl/day.

The company also has NGL storage capacity of 100m barrels at Mont Belvieu.
