China’s Hangzhou Tianyuan to double polyester capacity by 2012

HANGZHOU (ICIS)--China’s Hangzhou Tianyuan Polyester plans to start building a 500,000 tonne/year polyester yarn plant at Hangzhou in eastern China’s Zhejiang province in July, a company source said on Thursday.

“We’ve just made payment to Barmag for purchasing spinning machines,” the source said on the sidelines of a major industry event held in Hangzhou on 30-31 March. He declined to give further details.

Construction and equipment installation are expected to be completed in August-September 2012, he said, adding that commercial start-up would depend on the market situation.

With the addition of the new plant, the company’s total polyester capacity will reach 900,000 tonnes/year, he said.

Hangzhou Tianyuan runs two 200,000 tonne/year polyester plants at Hangzhou, mainly producing partially oriented yarn (POY) and fully drawn yarn (FDY). The two lines were taken off  line on 18 March for a 20-day turnaround, the source said.

China’s average polyester plant size, taking into account the poly-condensation process, is expected to reach 400,000 tonnes/year in 2011, higher than 360,000 tonnes/year in 2010, according to ICIS data.
