Russia polymers output in January-February mostly increases

MOSCOW (ICIS)--Russia’s production of polymers in the January-February period mostly increased due to strong local demand, according to data from the Russian Industry and Trade Ministry released on Thursday.

Russia’s total polyethylene (PE) output in the January-February period was approximately 290,000 tonnes, up 6% year on year.

Polypropylene (PP) production during the period was 118,000 tonnes, up 9%, while polystyrene (PS) output was up 32% at 52,000 tonnes, according to the ministry.

Russia’s total PVC production in the January-February period totalled 104,000 tonnes, down 1.4%, due to ethylene supply problems faced by some producers, the ministry said.

In January, the ministry forecast that Russia’s total PE output this year would rise by 15% compared with 2009, PP production would increase by 16%, PVC output by 15% and PS by 20%. It did not release 2010 comparisons.
