Indonesia’s Pertamina shuts Cilacap slackwax unit after quake

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Indonesian oil and gas major Pertamina has shut its 1,500 tonne/month slackwax unit in Cilacap for safety reviews after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the southern coast of Java island, a company source said on Monday.
The earthquake occurred at 03:05 hours local time (20:05 GMT) on Monday, according to Pertamina’s website.
“The slackwax unit is not damaged. It should be restarted in two or three days,” he said.
The producer’s slackwax unit produces three different grades, namely spindle oil (SPO), light machine oil (LMO) and de-asphalted oil (DAO). The oil content of SPO is at 35%, while LMO is at 28% and DAO is at around 20%, said the source.
The unit usually produces around 900 tonnes/month of SPO and LMO, and 600 tonnes/month of DAO, depending on the wax content of the crude oil, the source said.
Other major slackwax producers in Asia include Sinopec and PetroChina.
