SINGAPORE (ICIS)--SABIC Innovative Plastics said on Thursday it has teamed up with automotive engineering firm IAV to develop advanced lightweight thermoplastic solutions that can replace metal in electric vehicle and hybrid powertrain components.
The two companies intend to find new ways to optimise vehicle performance and efficiency, including lightweighting to offset heavy battery packs and shielding in areas of high voltage.
“We look forward to helping automakers develop next-generation powertrains and powertrain components as a result of this collaboration,” said Gregory Adams, vice president for automotive at SABIC Innovative Plastics.
SABIC Innovative Plastics is a wholly owned subsidiary of SABIC.
