SINGAPORE (ICIS)--South Korea’s S-Oil has achieved on-spec production of paraxylene (PX) and benzene at its new aromatics facility in Onsan, a company official said on Monday.
The unit can produce up to 300,000 tonnes/year of benzene and 900,000 tonnes/year of PX, the official added.
“They’ve [S-Oil] communicated to us that they have achieved on-spec production in the week to 8 April,” said a major PX buyer.
Another major end-user said S-Oil could be delivering up to 70% of the unit’s total production capacity in May. The company can produce up to 75,000 tonnes/month of PX.
The other major producer of PX in South Korea is GS Caltex, which can produce up to 1.35m tonnes/year of the material.
