Braskem should be the only company to produce polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) at the complex, it said.
The company also is studying whether it will produce other resins. A final decision should be made by the end of April.
The petrochemicals producer expects the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics, both to be hosted by Brazil, to help boost demand for thermoplastic resins PP, PE and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

Meanwhile, Petrobras said it has decided to use pre-salt natural gas instead of heavy crude oil as a fuel for its refining operations at Comperj .
Comperj should have a processing capacity of 165,000 bbl/day. The plant is expected to consume 15m cubic metres of natural gas/day and produce 1.1m tonnes/year of ethylene.
