Explosion at chemical plant in NE China kills nine workers - report

SHANGHAI (ICIS)--An explosion at Fuxin Chemical Plant at Daqing in China’s northeastern Heilongjiang province on the evening of 13 April has killed nine workers, state-run media Xinhua reported on Thursday.

The blast happened at 22:12 Beijing time.

Fourteen workers were at the production spot when the explosion occurred. Five workers escaped from the scene, but nine others died instantly, Xinhua said.

A fire caused by the blast was put off at 22:40 Beijing time, Xinhua said.

The plant has been shut down after the explosion and the cause of the blast is being investigated.

The plant is used mainly to produce azoic compounds and organic reagents.
