SAO PAULO (ICIS)--Brazil-based Braskem may start directly distributing its basic chemicals from Houston, without relying on local distributors, the company said on Friday.
The project is being studied by the company and could become effective in two years, according to a Braskem source.
Houston is being considered as the company’s distribution base because it is the hub for the US oil and petrochemical industries, the company said. Low costs and logistics are other factors favouring the city.
The company’s Houston office sells some $650m/year (€449/year) of basic chemicals through local distributors, Braskem added.
Braskem opened its first office in Houston to sell thermoplastic resins approximately four years ago and has been selling chemicals through distributors for about one year.
