SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan's Nippon Seiro is shutting its 90,000 tonne/year petroleum wax unit at Tokuyama in Yamaguchi province for one month from May, a company official said on Tuesday.

The shutdown is part of the company’s annual maintenance and is not related to the 11 March earthquake and tsunami that hit northeastern Japan

Nippon Seiro's wax capacity refers to its total production of paraffin, microcrystalline and other types of specialty waxes.

The sole producer in Japan said its paraffin wax prices were around $2,500/tonne (€1,750/tonne) free on board (FOB) for most grades of the waxes that it produces.

Other regional producers of paraffin wax include PetroChina and Taiwan Wax.
