PetroChina to build natural gas pipeline to Myanmar

SHANGHAI (ICIS)--PetroChina plans to start building a natural gas pipeline to Myanmar in the second half of the year, a source close to the company said on Wednesday.

The pipeline will run from China’s southwestern province of Yunnan to supply natural gas to the local market, the source added.

The source was unable to reveal the cost of the project.

“We are now investigating local natural gas demand and will decide the actual transport capacity of the pipeline”, the source said.

When contacted by ICIS, the local government declined to reveal the capacity figures.

Commercial operation is expected to start in 2013, PetroChina said.
