SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Kenya’s Magadi Soda restarted its 350,000 tonne/year soda ash unit in southern Kenya last week after a scheduled maintenance, a company source said on Wednesday.

The standard ash unit was taken off line early this month, the source said.

Meanwhile, Magadi is running its other 350,000 tonne/year premium ash facility at the same site at full capacity, said the source.

This unit might be due for turnaround in the last quarter of this year, he added.

Over 95% of the Magadi Soda’s output is exported to its principal markets - southeast Asia, India, Africa and the Middle East, according to the company’s website.

Soda ash is used in the manufacture of glass, detergents and industrial chemicals.
