HOUSTON (ICIS)--US-based Chevron awarded a $65m (€44m) contract to build two base oils units at its refinery in Pascagoula, Mississippi, the contractor said on Wednesday.
Under the contract, KBR will build a new lubes hydrocracker and a lube dewaxing/hydrofinishing unit for the project, the company said.
Work should start in May, KBR said. When completed, the project will make the Chevron refinery one of the largest premium base-oil plants in the world, the company said.
Chevron announced the base oils project earlier this year.
The plant will cost $1.4bn and will have a capacity of 25,000 bbl/day. Construction should be completed by the end of 2013.
When completed, the plant will make the same grades as the company's plant in Richmond, California - 100, 220 and 600.
In addition, the Pascagoula plant will make a grade not produced in Richmond - 60 Neutral.
