HOUSTON (ICIS)--US-based Valero has begun to restart its 245,000 bbl/day refinery in Texas City, Texas, a spokesman said on Friday.

The refinery was among several complexes in Texas City that lost power as a result of a string of outages earlier this week.

Valero lost its power on Tuesday morning, said Bill Day, spokesman. The refinery should return to normal operating rates in a couple of days, he said.

Valero is investigating the cause of the outage, Day said.

According to ICIS plants and projects, Valero produces: 80,000 tonnes/year of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) and 110,000 tonnes/year of propylene.
