HOUSTON (ICIS)--Mossi & Ghisolfi (M&G) expects to lift its force majeure (FM) on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) in Brazil on 23 May, the company said in a letter to customers on Tuesday.

M&G declared FM on PET in Brazil on 20 April.

Problems at the M&G plant in Suape first developed following a blackout in early February that affected the majority of states in Brazil’s northeastern region.

M&G Polimeros Brasil subsequently declared FM on PET from 16-28 March.

According to a letter to customers on 20 April, the plant presented the same issues that resulted in the FM declaration in March.

That led the company to suspect that the damage caused by the blackout of early February were more extensive than originally estimated.

The company said that purchase and sales contract obligations remain suspended while it continued efforts to resolve the production issues at the Suape facility as soon as possible.
