Oman’s Salalah Methanol shuts methanol plant

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Oman’s Salalah Methanol shut down its 1.3m tonne/year methanol plant at Salalah on 5 May because of technical issues, said a company source on Friday.

“We’re not sure what the technical issue is, but [as] it is the weekend now in Oman, we will only know more details after the weekend,” the source added.

The impact of the plant’s shutdown has yet to be ascertained, the company said. The unit was operating at close to full rates before the outage.

Salalah Methanol has not set a restart date for the plant.

The plant, which started up in May 2010, is a joint venture between Oman Oil and Oman Energy Trading
