SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China’s Shandong Jianlan Chemical plans to restart its 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) unit at Zibo in Shandong province on 13 May, a company source said on Monday.

The unit was taken off line on 5 May to expand its capacity from 100,000 tonnes/year to 140,000 tonnes/year, the source said.

Shandong Jianlan Chemical began operations at its 2-EH unit in October 2010 and had expanded the plant’s capacity by 30,000 tonnes/year from its original capacity of 70,000 tonnes/year in April this year, the source added.

The unit is expected to run at full rates once the expansion is complete. This is to address the tight supply of 2-EH in the domestic market for the long term, industry sources said.

Other major 2-EH producers in China include Daqing Petrochemical, Jilin Petrochemical, Sinopec Qilu Petrochemical and Tianjin Soda Plant.
