HOUSTON (ICIS)--Power has been restored to BP’s paraxylene (PX) facility in Decatur, Alabama, the company said on Monday.

The plant ceased production following a storm-related power outage at the site on 28 April. There was no damage to the plant itself.

The Decatur plant has a PX capacity of 1.1m tonnes/year, according to ICIS plants and projects.

BP did not declare force majeure (FM) on PX or downstream purified terephthalic acid (PTA) supply as a result of the outage.

The power outage also affected Indorama and INEOS Styrenics, which declared FM on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polystyrene (PS) supply respectively at their Decatur sites.

Other major US PX producers include Chevron Phillips Chemical, Flint Hills Resources and ExxonMobil Chemical.
