Brazil’s Braskem to set up office in Singapore in May

SAO PAULO (ICIS)--Brazil’s Braskem will open their first office in Singapore on 18 May to target the Asian market for basic petrochemicals, a company official said at the Brasilplast International Plastics Industry Trade Fair on Monday.

The Singapore office will strengthen the company’s presence in Asia, a region which will be responsible for about 60% of the world’s petrochemical market by 2014, Braskem’s basic petrochemicals exporter manager Rodrigo Carnauba, said in Portuguese.

According to Carnauba, the regional market plays an important role in terms of logistics as Braskem’s customers are located in Singapore, China, India, Indonesia, South Korea and Japan.

In addition, the company’s sales will be made direct to their customers for better margins without the use of local distributors, Braskem added.

The office will sell basic petrochemicals first, with plans to sell resins from Singapore as well as ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE) to the Japanese market in the future.

Braskem exports naphtha-derived olefins to Asia.

Braskem’s other international offices are located in Argentina, the US, the Netherlands, Chile, Venezuela and Colombia. 

Brasilplast is a major fair for the plastics industry in South America and runs from 9-13 May. It is organised and promoted by Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado, a joint venture between Reed Exhibitions and Alcantara Machado.
