HOUSTON (ICIS)--US vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) exports were up 22% to 86,105 tonnes in March, compared with 70,587 tonnes in the same month a year ago, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Wednesday.
However, VCM exports fell by 8.5% month to month, from the 94,060 tonnes exported in February.
Mexico remained the top destination for US VCM product. Exports to Mexico in March from the US totalled 33,593 tonnes.
Other top destinations for US material in March were Colombia, Canada and Australia.
An active export market in downstream polyvinyl chloride (PVC) has strengthened VCM demand globally, pushing US VCM prices higher.
US VCM producers include Oxy, Georgia Gulf, Formosa Plastics and Westlake.
