SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Iran’s Bou Ali Sina will restart production at its aromatics unit by the end of the month following a scheduled turnaround, said a source close to the company on Thursday.

The Bandar Imam-based unit producing 180,000 tonnes/year of benzene was taken off line two or three weeks back, the source added.

No further details were available.

Bou Ali is owned by National Petrochemical Co (NPC).

Meanwhile, Borzouyeh Petrochemical and Bandar Imam Petrochemical Co (BIPC), which are also owned by NPC, are running their aromatics plants at around 90% of capacity, the source said.

Borzouyeh produces 430,000 tonnes/year of benzene in Asaluyeh, while BIPC produces 230,000 tonnes/year of benzene in Bandar Imam.

Most of the benzene produced in Iran is for captive consumption of Pars Petrochemical's 600,000 tonne/year styrene monomer (SM) plant in Asaluyeh, the source said.
