The Bandar Imam-based unit producing 180,000 tonnes/year of benzene was taken off line two or three weeks back, the source added.
No further details were available.
Bou Ali is owned by National Petrochemical Co (NPC).
Meanwhile, Borzouyeh Petrochemical and Bandar Imam Petrochemical Co (BIPC), which are also owned by NPC, are running their aromatics plants at around 90% of capacity, the source said.
Borzouyeh produces 430,000 tonnes/year of benzene in Asaluyeh, while BIPC produces 230,000 tonnes/year of benzene in Bandar Imam.
