LONDON (ICIS)--South Korea’s KP Chemical has declared force majeure on supplies of purified isophthalic acid (PIA) from its facility in Ulsan due to an unexpected mechanical problem, the company said on Friday.

The PIA unit is shut down and is expected to restart in two weeks, the company added.

"Under this unforeseen circumstance, we are doing our best to normalise the facility as soon as possible but until then, KP has to declare a force majeure under its PIA supply agreement with all customers,” KP Chemical said in a declaration letter to its customers.

The facility has the capacity to produce 200,000 tonnes/year of PIA.
