SABIC, Sinopec to build 260,000 tonne/year PC plant in China

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--SABIC will collaborate with China’s Sinopec on a new polycarbonate (PC) production plant in Tianjin, the Saudi Arabian petrochemical giant said on Tuesday.

The 260,000 tonne/year plant is expected to come on stream in 2015. It will be located in northern China at the production site of Sinopec SABIC Tianjin Petrochemical Co (SSTPC), a 50:50 joint venture of the two companies, SABIC said.

Financial details were not disclosed.

Polycarbonate is a plastic used in producing components for automotive parts, compact discs and other consumer products.

SSTPC, which has been operational since last year, produces a range of petrochemical products including ethylene, polyethylene (PE), ethylene glycol (EG), polypropylene (PP), butadiene (BD) and phenol.
