SINGAPORE (ICIS)--National Petrochemical Industrial Co (NATPET) will restart its 400,000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) plant at Yanbu in Saudi Arabia on 1 July, after a 60-day turnaround, a company executive said on Thursday.
The plant was shut on 1 May for maintenance and upgrading, said Anwar Ahmed Hannan, NATPET’s key account manager for Europe, Asia and the Americas.
Hannan was speaking on the sidelines of the four-day Chinaplas exhibition in Guangzhou, China.
The PP plant will be able to produce new grades such as high melt flow block copolymers after the upgrading work, and its production efficiency will be raised to 100% capacity, said Hannan.
Before the upgrade, the plant will only be able to achieve 90-92% capacity, he said.
NATPET plans to make other PP grades such as random copolymers for pipe applications in the second half of 2011, he added.
The Chinaplas 2011 exhibition in Guangzhou runs through 20 May.
