TEHRAN (ICIS)--Karoon Petrochemical Co (KRNPC), Iran’s sole producer of toluene di-isocyanate (TDI), is running its facility at Bandar Mashahr at a reduced operating rate of 20-30% because of technical problems, a source close to the company said on Sunday.

The TDI unit, which has a nameplate capacity of 40,000 tonnes/year, has been experiencing operating issues since its start-up last April, the source said on the sidelines of the Iran Petrochemical Forum (IPF).

“There are feedstock issues as well,” he said.

“We do not know when the plant will resume normal operating rates. It all depends on how well the repairs will go on and whether we can secure raw material,” he added.

KRNPC’s 40,000 tonne/year methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) plant at the same site is expected to start up in the first quarter of 2012, the source added.

The IPF was held in Tehran, Iran, on 21-22 May.
