Shenhua Ningxia sells first 1,000 tonnes of PP to eastern China

SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China’s Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Group sold its first 1,000 tonnes of polypropylene (PP) from its methanol-to-propylene (MTP) complex to eastern China, a company source said on Tuesday.

“We transported our first cargo on 18 May by rail to a downstream buyer at Yuyao [in] eastern Zhejiang province,” the source told ICIS.

The source declined to disclose the name of the buyer.

“Our target market is concentrated in [eastern] China as [many] downstream plants are located there,” the source added.

The MTP complex has a 1.67m tonne/year coal-to-methanol plant, a 490,000 tonne/year MTP plant and a 500,000 tonne/year PP unit in northwestern Ningxia province.

“The whole complex is running at 50% presently,” the source said.

The MTP project went into trial production from late April after on-spec PP production was achieved on 28 April, according to the source.

Shenhua Ningxia is a joint venture between the Ningxia provincial government with a 49% stake and China’s largest coal producer, Shenhua Group, with a 51% stake.
